JOB DESCRIPTION

An ADR Driver, also known as a Dangerous Goods Driver, is responsible for transporting hazardous materials in accordance with the regulations outlined in the European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road (ADR). This role involves specialized training and adherence to strict safety protocols for the transportation of dangerous goods.

QUALIFICATIONS

No formal academic entry qualifications are required. The LGV test incorporates a medical examination, theory test and assessed road driving. LGV drivers of vehicles of 3.5 tonnes and over require a Driver CPC (Certificate of Professional Competence). The minimum age for LGV driving after obtaining the qualification is 18 years. NVQs/SVQs, other vocational courses and apprenticeships relevant to this occupation are available at various levels.

  • Assist with loading and unloading dangerous goods, ensuring proper handling and compliance with ADR guidelines..
  • Use equipment and follow procedures designed for the safe handling of hazardous materials..
  • Maintain accurate records of the transportation of dangerous goods, including consignment details and required paperwork..
  • Complete documentation in compliance with ADR regulations..
  • Adhere to strict safety guidelines for ADR operation, including vehicle maintenance and personal protective equipment use..
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the vehicle..
  • Interact with customers or warehouse personnel professionally and courteously..
  • Address inquiries related to the transportation of dangerous goods..
  • Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, or regulatory authorities..
  • Relay information regarding delays, route changes, or other relevant details..
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on the ADR vehicle, ensuring it meets safety standards..
  • Report any mechanical issues for timely repairs..
  • Stay updated on ADR regulations, industry standards, and safety protocols..
  • Participate in ongoing training sessions to maintain and enhance knowledge..
